The governance gap in Psychosocial Risk
Lack of visibility into psychosocial risk is now a key governance risk for schools. WHS expectations require not only identification of psychosocial hazards, but also evidence that they are being monitored and addressed over time. School boards are increasingly expected to oversee this area with the same rigour as financial or safety matters.
The problem is how to gain this visibility, and maintain it, in a way that aligns with the Model Code of Practice and doesn’t overburden already busy leadership teams.
The solution – a single visual that covers the full picture
Xavier College Llandilo partnered with Skodel to address this by implementing a simple, staff-informed process that feeds directly into a live Risk Radar Graph – the one visual every school board needs to govern psychosocial risk effectively.

- The Radar Graph is aligned to the 17 psychosocial hazards in the Model Code of Practice.
- It presents live, role-based data that highlights areas of concern and tracks movement over time.
- It provides a defensible source of truth for governance, showing where action is needed and where controls are working.
“This one visual makes psychosocial risk tangible, easy to understand and monitor. As a leadership group, it’s a critical governance tool - concise and shows us exactly where to focus.”
— Michael Pate, Principal Xavier College Llandilo
How the data is collected in consultation with staff – a 2–4 Minute Consultation
The process is intentionally simple:
- Staff complete a 2–4 minute psychosocial check developed in line with WHS regulations.
- Data feeds automatically into the Radar Graph.
- Results are reviewed by leadership and used to inform targeted controls.
- At any point, the check can be resent to track progress and detect emerging issues.
“The simplicity and speed of this process acknowledges staff time and makes it easy to stick with. We didn’t need to build anything new, and we could start using the insights right away.”
— Michael Pate, Xavier College Llandilo
