Skodel has worked with schools in different capacities to deliver wellbeing programs. In those, we have seen
- Centralised management by one person for as many as 1000 students
- Key leadership management at house, campus or year level
- Teachers delivering including teacher training
It's important to acknowledge that not all teachers will have the same level of expertise, time or interest in delivering wellbeing programs. For these reasons, we believe a more centralised approach with key leaders taking on the role to deliver wellbeing is more appropriate. Teachers can provide support in other ways, for example, encouraging student participation or communicating initiatives to students so they are aware.
Ultimately, the key is to strike a balance between the involvement of a central wellbeing leader and the participation of teachers in the delivery of wellbeing programs. By working together, schools can create a comprehensive and effective approach to supporting the mental health and well-being of their students.
How Skodel does this
- A centralised schedule: Skodel enables leaders to set up a schedule of check-ins at key moments throughout the year. Our templates can be used off the shelf and adjusted to assist leaders in planning wellbeing and gaining insights.
- Management reports: Reports on usage and impact that celebrate progress enable leaders to demonstrate what the schools is doing to support student wellbeing
- Evidence based support: To reduce the burden on teachers, we believe students should be equipped to manage their own wellbeing. This includes our action planning tool and interactive coaching from leading child psychologists like Andrew Fuller. View an interactive demo of the student experience HERE
Expanding Skodel to teachers
There may be teachers who want to be more involved in seeing and responding to the data on Skodel. In this case, accounts can be set up with data restricted to those students in their care. This can naturally happen overtime and may be something leaders can discuss with teachers to see who would be interested in being more involved. When it does, we know the impact is amplified!
Hope this has been helpful in providing an overview of our assessment of how centrally run student led wellbeing as opposed to teacher led.
